Tomato Chutney
Tomato chutney - a spicy tangy chutney made from tomatoes, pearl onions with a little bit of spices and hing. It is a best combination with South Indian breakfast like dosa , idli, uthappam etc.
Ingredients
- Tomato - 2 big (cubed)
- Pearl onion (kunjulli) - 10 nos (split into n two)
- REd chilli powder - 1tsp or more
- Salt - as needed
- Hing - 1 pinch
- Water - 3 tbsp
- Oil - 1.5 tsp
To splutter
- Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
- Split urad dal - 1tsp
- Dried red chilli - 2 nos
- Curry leaves - few
- Hing 1 pinch
- Oil - 1tbsp
Method
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add a pinch of hing and sauté pearl onions till wilted
- Add cubed tomatoes and sauté for 3-4 minutes.
- Switch off the flame and allow to cool.
- Transfer to a blender .Add water if needed and blend to a smooth paste
- Heat the pan again and pour the paste and heat in medium flame adding chilli powder and salt as needed. Sauté till raw smell disappears.
- Transfer to a bowl
- Heat oil in a pan and splutter ingredients in "To splutter " section and pour over the chutney.
- Tastes best with idli, dosa, rava dosa, oats dosa etc.
Notes
- Add chilli powder according to your spice level.
