Tomato Chutney



              Tomato chutney - a spicy tangy chutney made from tomatoes, pearl onions with a little bit of spices and hing. It is  a best combination with South Indian breakfast like dosa , idli, uthappam etc.

 Ingredients

  1. Tomato - 2 big (cubed)
  2. Pearl onion (kunjulli) - 10 nos (split into n two)
  3. REd chilli powder - 1tsp or more 
  4. Salt - as needed
  5. Hing - 1 pinch
  6. Water -  3 tbsp
  7. Oil - 1.5 tsp

To splutter

  1. Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
  2. Split urad dal - 1tsp
  3. Dried red chilli - 2 nos
  4. Curry leaves - few
  5. Hing 1 pinch
  6. Oil - 1tbsp

Method

  1. Heat  1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add a pinch of hing and sauté pearl onions till wilted
  2. Add cubed tomatoes and sauté for 3-4  minutes.
  3. Switch off the flame and allow to cool.
  4. Transfer to a blender .Add water if needed and blend to a smooth paste
  5. Heat the pan again and pour the paste and heat in medium flame adding chilli powder and salt as needed. Sauté till raw smell disappears.
  6. Transfer to a bowl
  7. Heat oil in a pan and splutter ingredients in "To splutter " section and pour over the chutney.
  8. Tastes best with idli, dosa, rava dosa, oats dosa etc.

Notes

  • Add chilli powder according to your spice level.
