Quail Fry ( Kaada Fry)
" Quail Fry "- a tasty non vegetarian delicacy prepared using Kerala style marinade." Quail " is a small bird, whose meat and eggs are edible. They have high protein content and are considered as a healthy substitute for chicken. They are easy to cook and have a tender flavorful flesh. Cleaned quail meat are marinated in a masala paste made from ginger, garlic aromatic spices, fresh curry leaves and deep fried in oil. It can be served as a starter or as a side dish with rice, roti, chapati , porotta or naan.
Ingredients
- Quail - 3 nos
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Kashmiri Chilli powder - 2 tbsp
- Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
- Pepper powder - 1 tsp
- Ginger garlic paste -1 tbsp
- Garam Masala Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Cornstarch -1 tbsp
- Rice flour - 1 tsp
- Lemon juice -1 tbsp
- Curry Leaves - few
- Salt - 1 tsp
- Oil- for frying
Method
- Clean and wash the quail well.Drain and keep in a bowl.Make wedges with a knife for the masala to coat well in the quail.
- Make a masala paste with the ingredients numbered 2 to 12 adding little water.
- Marinate with the above masala paste and keep for minimum of 2- 3 hrs refrigerated. (preferably overnight).
- Heat a nonstick pan and add oil.
- Fry the marinated quail flipping all sides, till they are evenly browned.
- Drain and keep aside.
- Serve hot with salad and rice.
Notes
- Adding cornstarch and rice flour is optional but it gives a nice crispy texture for the quail fry.
- The longer you marinate the more taste it will be.
