Chicken Curry ( Kerala Style )
Ingredients
- Chicken pieces - 500 gms
- Onion - 1 (sliced lengthwise )
- Tomato - 1/2 (cubed)
- Crushed Ginger - 1 tsp
- Crushed Garlic - 1 tsp
- Crushed green chilli - 2 tbsp
- Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
- Coriander Powder - 1.5 tbsp
- Garam Masala powder - 1/4 tsp
- Crushed Pepper powder - 1 tsp
- Thick Coconut Milk - 3 tbsp
- Curry Leaves
- Salt - to taste
- Coconut Oil - 3 tbsp
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Cardamom - 2
- Cloves - 2
- Cinnamon stick - 1 small piece
- Pepper corns - 5 nos
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
- Coriander Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Pepper powder -1 tsp
- Garam masala powder - 1/4 tsp
- Crushed Ginger garlic - 1 tsp
- Crushed Green chilli - 1/2 tsp
- Salt - to taste
- Curry leaves
- Vinegar - 1 tsp
Method
- Clean and wash chicken pieces well.
- Marinate the pieces with ingredients given "To marinate" section and keep for half an hour.
- In a pan add coconut oil and splutter whole spices.
- Add sliced onions , curry leaves and saute till it gets wilted.
- add crushed ginger , garlic and green chilli paste and saute till brown.
- At this stage add turmeric, coriander , pepper powder and saute till raw smell disappears.
- Add marinated chicken pieces and mix well.. Close lid and cook for 5 minutes.
- Transfer to a pressure cooker and add 1/2 cup water.Cover and cook for 2 whistles.
- Once pressure is released, open the lid and mix well.
- Reduce flame and add thick coconut milk.
- Sprinkle pepper powder and garam masala .
- Add cubed tomato pieces,fresh curry leaves.
- Serve hot with pathiri, palappam, appam, idiyappam or chapathi
