Beetroot ila parippu ozhichu curry (Beet -Leaves Dal Curry)




Ingredients
  • Beet leaves and stem chopped - 1 cup
  • Toor Dal - 1/4 cup
  • Green Chilli - 2 or 3
  • Water - 2 cup +1/2 cup
  • Tamarind- a small gooseberry size
  • Salt  as needed


To Grind to fine paste
  • Grounded Coconut 1/4 cup
  • Jeera - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt 1 pinch
  • Pearl Onion- 1


To temper

  • Oil - 1 tsp
  • Mustard sees- 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leves
  • Dried red chilli



Method

  1. Wash and clean dal and soak in water for 10 mins
  2. Pressure cook dal for 3 whistles(until done) adding  water ,salt and slit green chilli.
  3. Once pressure released open the cooker and add
  4. In  a pressure cooker add  chopped beet leaves and cover and cook  till done
  5. Soak tamarind in 1/2 cup water, squeeze out the pulp and pour to the cooked beet-leaves dal mixture
  6. Let it simmer for 5 mins
  7. Meanwhile grind coconut,jeera, salt and onion to fine paste
  8. Pour this mixture to curry and cover cook for 2 mins
  9. Switch of the flame
  10. Temper mustard seeds, red chilly, curry leaves and pour over the curry.
  11. Serve hot with rice.
