Kerala Beef Curry
A spicy authentic Kerala recipe where beef meat is sauted in onions and tomato based gravy with a variety of masala powder.This spicy dish tastes best when cooked in virgin coconut oil and is a best combination with appam, pathiri, puttu, chapati or idiyappam.
Ingredients
- Beef - 500 gm (chuck roast preferred)
- Onion - 2 (finely sliced)
- Tomato - 1/2 (chopped)
- Ginger - 1tbsp chopped
- Garlic - 1tbsp chopped
- Green Chilli - 2 or 3
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Kashmiri Chilli powder - 2 tbsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
- Meat masala powder - 1.5 tsp
- Garam Masala Powder- 1/2 tsp
- Pepper Powder -1/2 tsp
- Curry Leaves
- Salt - to taste
- Coconut Oil - 3 tbsp
Method
- In a pressure cooker add oil .Splutter curry leaves.
- Add chopped ginger , garlic and saute till a nice aroma comes.
- Add sliced onion and saute till they become light brown.
- Add turmeric, chilli, coriander, meat masala powders and mix well.
- Add chopped tomatoes and saute well till they becomes mushy and oil starts oozing out.
- To this mixture, add cleaned cut beef and saute in medium flame till the masala is coated well on the beef.
- Add 1 cup water and mix gently.
- Close the lid of cooker and cook till done. (4-5 whistles).
- When the pressure is released open the cooker and sprinkle garam masala and pepper powder.
- Add 1 tsp coconut oil and fresh curry leaves .
- Tastes best with pathiri, porotta, appam chapathi, roti etc.
