Meat Puffs
"Meat Puffs" - A snack where spicy beef masala is wrapped in crispy , flaky pastry sheet .One of the irresistible evening snack for any non-veg lover and tastes best when paired with tea, coffee or juice.
Ingredients
- Puff Pastry Sheet 8 nos
- Beef - 200 gm
- Onion - 2 large
- Ginger garlic paste - 2 tsp
- Green chilli - 1 chopped
- Curry leaves - few
- Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
- Meat masala powder - 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp +1/4 tsp
- Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp +1/4 tsp
- Garam masala Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Water 2 tbsp
- Salt - as needed
- Oil - 2 tbsp
- Egg - 1 (for egg wash)
Method
- Wash and clean beef well. Cut into small cubes. Marinate with salt, 1/4 tsp turmeric and 1/2 tsp pepper powder and cook for 4 whistles.
- Once done, strain the excess water and shred to small pieces (you can use a mixer for this)
- In a heated pan, add oil .
- Add onion and sauté till onion becomes brown.
- Add ginger garlic paste, green chilly, curry leaves and sauté till raw smell disappears.
- Add all powders, salt and mix well. you can use 2 tbsp water if it is too dry.
- Add shredded beef pieces and mix well. This is the filling. Allow this mixture to cool completely
- Take the puff pastry sheet ( cut to square shaped if it is a roll) and place required amount of " meat masala filling" inside sheet.
- Fold the edges to your desired shape and press the edges.
- Place all the filled puffs on a lightly greased baking pan.
- Meanwhile beat 1 tbsp egg with 1 tbsp water to make an "egg wash" and apply on top of each puffs with a brush.
- Preheat the oven to 400F.
- Bake for 12- 15 minutes till the puffs turns golden brown. Take out from oven and serve hot.
Notes
- Thaw the puff pastry sheets at least 20 minutes before you prepare puffs.
- The baking time varies and depends upon the type puff pastry sheets used and the oven. Generally it takes around 12 to 15 minutes.
- If you are buying the puff pastry sheet roll, cut into desired size ,gently roll and use.
- Allow the filling to cool completely before stuffing on the pastry sheet else it will turn soggy
- Adding egg wash to the puffs gives a nice crispy texture and golden color to the puffs.
