Egg Moilee /Mutta Molly (Kerala Style)
" Egg Moilee/ Egg Molly /Mutta Moilee" is a Kerala dish where hard boiled eggs are cooked with sauter onion , ginger, green chilli and curry leaves along with some spices in a rich creamy coconut milk gravy. This curry is very mild in flavor and tastes best when paired with idiyappam (string hoppers), Paal appam or bread.
Ingredients
- Hard Boiled Eggs- 3
- Onion -1 (thinly sliced lengthwise)
- Green chill - 4 (slit into 2)
- Tomato - 1/2 small (sliced into thin circles)
- Ginger - 1tsp (chopped)
- Garlic- 2 -3 pods (chopped)
- Turmeric Powder -1/2 tsp
- Coriander Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Crushed Pepper powder -1/4 tsp
- Garam Masala Powder - 1/4 tsp
- Cloves - 1
- Cardamom - 2
- Cinnamon - 1 small piece
- Curry Leaves - a handful
- Coconut milk - 1 cup
- Water - 1 cup
- Lemon jiuce - 1/2 tsp
- Coconut Oil - 1 tbsp +1tsp
- Salt - to taste
Method
- In a heated pan add oil. Add cloves, cinnamon and cardamom and sauté for a few seconds.
- Add chopped ginger and garlic and sauté till a nice aroma appears followed by sliced onion, green chilli, curry leaves. Sauté till onion turns translucent.
- Add salt, turmeric, coriander powders and and mix well.
- Add 1 cup water . Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Split the hard boiled eggs into two.
- Add eggs and cover and cook in medium to low flame for 5 mins.
- Reduce the flame and add thick coconut milk and simmer for 2 mins.
- Add sliced tomato ,curry leaves 1 tsp coconut oil. Sprinkle crushed pepper powder and garam masala powder on top.
- Switch off the flame and add lemon juice.
- Tastes best with bread, idiyappam and palappam.
