Egg Moilee /Mutta Molly (Kerala Style)


" Egg Moilee/ Egg Molly /Mutta Moilee" is a Kerala dish where hard boiled eggs are cooked with sauter onion , ginger, green chilli and curry leaves along with some spices in a rich creamy coconut milk gravy. This curry is very mild in flavor and tastes best when paired with idiyappam (string hoppers), Paal appam or bread.



Ingredients
  • Hard Boiled Eggs- 3
  • Onion -1 (thinly sliced lengthwise)
  • Green chill - 4 (slit into 2)
  • Tomato - 1/2 small (sliced  into thin circles)
  • Ginger - 1tsp (chopped)
  • Garlic- 2 -3 pods (chopped)
  • Turmeric Powder -1/2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Crushed Pepper powder -1/4 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Cloves - 1
  • Cardamom - 2
  • Cinnamon - 1 small piece
  • Curry Leaves - a handful
  • Coconut milk - 1 cup
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Lemon jiuce - 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut Oil - 1 tbsp +1tsp
  • Salt - to taste


Method
  1. In a heated pan add oil. Add cloves, cinnamon and cardamom and sauté for a  few seconds.
  2. Add chopped ginger and garlic and sauté till a nice aroma appears followed by sliced onion, green chilli, curry leaves. Sauté till onion turns translucent.
  3. Add salt, turmeric, coriander powders and and mix well.
  4. Add 1 cup water . Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Split the hard boiled eggs into two.
  6. Add eggs and cover and cook in medium to low flame for 5 mins.
  7. Reduce the flame and add  thick coconut milk and simmer for  2 mins.
  8. Add sliced tomato ,curry leaves 1 tsp coconut oil. Sprinkle crushed pepper powder and garam masala powder on top.
  9. Switch off the flame and add lemon juice. 
  10.  Tastes best with bread, idiyappam and palappam.
