Cherry Compote / Cherry Sauce
"Cherry Compote" or "Cherry Sauce" is a yummy and delicious sauce which can be used as topping for desserts, cakes, waffles and can even be added to savory dishes. It needs only a very few ingredients. Fresh and pitted cherries are slow cooked with water, sugar and simmered in low flame in a sauce pan and finally thickened by adding cornstarch. The sauce is really tasty and you will be really irresistible to finish any leftover in the saucepan after cooking. If you have a lot of fresh cherries in your home, try this.....!!!!
Ingredients
- Fresh cherries - 1.5 lb
- Sugar - 2/3 cup
- Water - 3/4 cup
- Cornstarch - 1 tbsp
- Lemon juice - 1 tbsp
Method
- Clean and wash the cherries really well.
- Pit and remove the stem and transfer to a bowl
- In a heavy bottomed saucepan, transfer the pitted cherries, water, sugar and heat in medium flame for about 20 minutes.
- Dissolve cornstarch in 2 tbsp of water and pour to the heating mixture.Simmer for few more minutes and add lemon juice.
- Allow to cool and transfer to a glass bottle.
Notes
- You can even use frozen pitted cherries but it will take a little longer time
- You can even spike this recipe with some liquor which can be finally added to this recipe.
- If you want the sauce to be really smooth, you can puree them in a blender and bring back to boil before adding cornstarch and lemon juice.
- Adding cornstarch thickens the sauce and gives a nice glazing to it.
- The amount of sugar used in this recipe can be varies according to ones preference.
- Fresh cherries works best for this recipe.
- This can be stored in a clean jar in refrigerator for about 2 weeks.
