Banana Foster
" Banana Foster " is a scrumptious American dessert originated at Brennan's Resaturant in New Orleans by Chef Paul in 1951.This dessert was named for Richard Foster, who was a chairman of the New Orleans Crime Commission. It is a super easy dessert to make where bananas are cooked in buttery caramelized rum/brandy sauce and topped with vanilla or butterscotch ice cream.
Ingredients
- Banana - 2 (Robusta)
- Butter -1.5 tbsp
- Brandy/Rum - 2 tbsp
- Brown Sugar - 2 tbsp
- Cinnamon powder - a pinch
- Nutmeg - a pinch
- Vanilla/Butter scotch ice cream - 2 scoop
- Pecans - to garnish
Method
- Slice each banana vertically into 2 and again each slice horizontally into 2 . so you get 4 equal halves.
- Place a pan in medium heat and add brown sugar.
- When it stars caramelizing add butter, cinnamon and nutmeg powder and mix well.
- Once everything blends well to a brown sauce add sliced bananas and cook each side for a minute.
- Add rum/ brandy and set alcohol on fire with the help of a lighter ( a process called Flamb'e - which in French means "flaming" or "flamed").
- Once the fire is off, serve onto a plate and top it with ice-cream.
Notes
- The banana should be ripe but firm for best results.
- Remove the pan from heat and then add alcohol and set to fire, else it may flame up too much
- Don't pour alcohol directly from bottle as alcohol in bottle may catch fire.
