Black Bean Burger






 Black beans are excellent sources of fiber, proteins and antioxidants and is a healthy addition to both vegetarians and non vegetarians. Try this quick, simple easy recipe and enjoy it as your breakfast or meal.


Ingredients

  1. Burger Buns - 4
  2. Canned Black Bean (cooked) - 1 (14 oz)
  3. Yellow Onion - 1/2 (finely chopped)
  4. Red Bell Pepper (finely chopped) - 2 tbsp
  5. Yellow Bell Pepper (finely chopped) - 1 tbsp
  6. Freshly Chopped Parsley  -  1 tbsp
  7. Freshly Chopped Cilantro - 1 tbsp
  8. Garlic (finely chopped)- 1 tbsp
  9. Oregano - 1 tsp
  10. Red Chilli Flakes - 1 tsp
  11. Paprika - 1 tbsp
  12. Lemon Pepper Seasoning - 1 tsp
  13. Freshly Ground Pepper - 1 tsp
  14. Salt - to Taste
  15. Bread Crumbs - 1/4 cup
  16. Egg while - 1 (optional) 
  17. Olive Oil - 1 tbsp




For Topping (optional)

  • Roman Lettuce Leaves 
  • Tomato
  • Onion
  • Cucumber
  • Pickled Jalapenos
  • Ketchup


Method
-----------
  1. Drain the black beans and transfer to a wide mouthed bowl. Mash it well using a fork.(or you can use a chopper, but take care when you use it as it should not be too mushy).
  2. Add ingredients numbered 3 to 16 and mix well.
  3. Add bread crumbs and egg white and mix.
  4. Take one handful portion of the mixture and flatten gently with your palm so as to make round burgers.For easy handling you can place it in a  clear plastic wrap , cover and gently press it so that it wont stick too much to your hands and you will get good round shapes.
  5. Keep it in freezer for at least 20 minutes to hold its shape.
  6. In a  heated pan add olive oil.
  7. Add the burgers and cook for about 6- 8 min on medium flame flipping each sides till both sides are brown.
  8. Transfer to a plate.
  9. Place a burger on to of the half sliced burger bun.
  10. Top with the veggies and ketchup of your choice.(I used lettuce, tomato, onion , cucumber, jalapenos)
  11. Cover with the other slice.


Notes
---------
  1. Egg white is added for easy binding. It is  an optional step. You can skip this step if needed.
  2. You can make the burgers in bulk . Cover each one in a cling wrap and place them in an airtight box/Ziploc  and store in freezer. Take out the required numbers, thaw and use when needed.
  3. Alterations in the mix can be made according to ones taste.
