Pacha Cheera (Green Spinach) Aviyal



Ingredients
  • Cheera(Spinach) - 3 cups (leaves and stem separate)
  • Ethakaya (Raw plantain) - 1/4 cup
  • Drumstick  -1
  • Suran/ Chena - 1/4 cup
  • Indian cucumber/Winter melon - 1/2 cup
  • Jackfruit seeds - 10 nos
  • Brinjal (Green) - 1/4 cup
  • Tamarind pulp - 1/4 cup( soak 1 small gooseberry size tamarind in 1/4 cup water)
  • Green chilli - 4
  • Curry leaves - 1 spring
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Turmeric powder - 1 pinch
  • Water - 1/2 - 1 cup

To Grind (Coarse)
  • Coconut - 3/4 cup
  • Shallot -2 nos
  • Jeera (Cumin) -1/4 tsp
  • Green chilli -1 
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp


Method
  1. Separate the leaves and stem of cheera. Chop leaves and cut the stem into 2 inch long pieces. 
  2. To a heated pan add 1 tbsp oil .Add slit green chilli , 1 spring curry leaves and saute for 5 sec.
  3. To it add all veggies except spinach leaves and saute for 3 minutes.
  4. Add 1/2 cup water, salt and turmeric powder .Close lid and cook till  almost done add chopped spinach leaves Close lid and cook for 1 min.
  5. Now add tamarind pulp and mix well. Cover and cook for another 5 mins.
  6. When they are done add the grounded coconut mixture and mix well.
  7. After 3 mins add 1 tsp coconut oil and fresh curry leaves.
